If Anyone Still Reads These...

Sun Sep 28, 2008, 8:16 PM
Hello!

Lately there's been increasing problems on the internet with people ripping other people's work, or replicating work and posting at as their own piece without permission. I just wanted to say to you guys: always sign and date your work!!!

This is one reason why I originally left dA (along with the account being a lot of maintenance). There's nothing more important than keeping your ideas safe, especially when you want to make it in the arts as a career!!! So, even though someone could always take a free digital copy of your work for themselves, posting a smaller sized image, and putting your own watermark on the bottom can make a huge difference in having the work be able to be traced back to you. (Uh, ...I make everything sound confusing somehow.)

Theee Ennnnnddd!!!

Hahaha I feel like I sound like a nagging mom, but yeah, I guess it's important to be super careful, especially with the Orphan Works Act that's trying to be passed in Congress right now. Basically it means if someone can't find the owner of a piece, it's considered "orphaned" and free domain...

Yeah I heard about that. That thing is friggen scary as hell. The proponents of the bill call people like us "paranoid artists".
People like that have obviously not spent much time online where art theft happens every day. ><
